Gear Guide

What to Pack for a Theme Park Day

The right gear makes a full day noticeably better. The wrong gear — or no gear — costs you time and comfort. Here's what actually matters.

The Non-Negotiables

#1

Fanny Pack / Hip Pack

Hands-free, park-friendly, and survives every coaster. The single most impactful gear purchase for regular park visitors. Look for one with at least 2L capacity and a front zip pocket. Wear it in front on coasters.

Reusable Water Bottle

Parks allow sealed water bottles. A 32oz insulated bottle keeps water cold all day and saves $20+ in overpriced park drinks. Clip to your fanny pack. Fill at water fountains or ask any quick-service location for free ice water.

Portable Charger

A full park day drains your phone — you're using the map, wait times app, and camera constantly. A 10,000mAh charger fits in a fanny pack and gets you through a 12-hour day without hunting for an outlet.

Sunscreen (reef-safe spray)

Outdoor parks mean 8+ hours of sun exposure. Spray sunscreen is faster to reapply, fits in a fanny pack, and doesn't get greasy. SPF 50 minimum. Reapply every 2 hours — set a phone alarm.

Worth Bringing

Comfortable Walking Shoes

You'll walk 8–12 miles on a full park day. Sneakers with real cushioning matter. Avoid new shoes — you want something broken in. Waterproof is a bonus if weather is unpredictable.

Light Rain Poncho

Packable ponchos weigh nothing and cost under $15. A rain shower mid-day doesn't have to end your trip. Keep one in the bottom of your bag. Also useful on water rides.

Waterproof Phone Case

Useful on water rides and in unexpected rain. Lanyard attachment keeps your phone accessible without adding to your pocket load. Clear front works with Face ID.

Electrolyte Packets

Full-day heat + walking + adrenaline dehydrates you faster than you expect. Liquid IV or similar packets added to your water bottle keep energy up without the cost of park sports drinks.

If You Want POV Footage

GoPro or Action Cam

Most parks allow small action cameras on certain coasters. Check each park's specific policy — some prohibit all cameras on select rides. A chest mount or wrist mount is more secure than a head mount on high-speed coasters.

Magnetic Phone Mount

MagSafe-compatible mounts that attach to your belt or bag keep your phone accessible between rides without fumbling. Faster than a pocket, more secure than a hand carry.
